Principle Group's profile

GILMAN SQUARE STATION AREA PLAN

The City of Somerville and the MBTA are preparing to construct over the next decade six new Green Line subway stations. Once complete, this extensive transit project will bring 85% of the city’s population within a 1/4 mile of a station.

Principle Group worked with the city’s Planning Department to develop urban design and development plans for the areas surrounding three of these new stations. Gilman Square, which is currently an auto-oriented intersection, will be transformed into a new public square with a civic tower. This neighborhood lead plan will also improve the development potential for several private and City owned sites surrounding the new square and station. Construction of the first phase of this project is currently underway.
